The Vortex Somatic Compass™
The Vortex Somatic Compass™ is the lens I use to understand where someone is in a season of life, what may be asking for attention, and what kind of support may make sense next.
Five directions. Five ways of paying attention.
The Compass gives us language for what a season may be asking from you without turning your life into a checklist or diagnosis.
There is no wrong place to begin.
The Compass is not a ladder.
You are not supposed to move neatly from Nourish to Release to Shine to Connect and then graduate into Expand.
Life does not work like that.
You may need restoration before movement. Release before expression. Community before confidence. And years from now, you may find yourself returning to something you thought you had already understood.
The goal is not to master the Compass. It is to recognize what is asking for your attention now.
Restoration is not simply about adding more self-care.
It asks what actually restores you.
This direction looks at depletion, overgiving, pleasure, rhythm, rest, support, receiving, and the difference between true nourishment and temporary comfort.
It also asks us to notice what we repeatedly reach for when something deeper feels underfed.
You are allowed to receive.
Nature does not treat endings as evidence that something went wrong.
Leaves fall. Old growth breaks down. What appears finished becomes material for something new.
Release asks us to notice what has already completed its work and what we continue carrying simply because we are afraid to let it end.
This is not avoidance. It is conscious completion.
You are allowed to let go.
Illumination is not about becoming louder or performing confidence.
It is about allowing what is already alive inside you to come forward.
Your voice. Your ideas. Your creativity. Your desire. Your leadership. Your joy. Your weirdness.
Shine asks where you have learned to shrink and where you may be performing instead of expressing.
Your light does not need permission.
Different directions interrupt different patterns. None of them are better than the others.
Belonging is more than finding the right people.
It includes learning how to receive support, participate in community, remain yourself inside relationships, and remember that you are part of something larger than yourself.
North also holds ancestry. Not only inherited pain. Inherited resilience.
Humor. Food. Language. Music. Ritual. Creativity. Resourcefulness. Ways of surviving, loving, making, adapting, and caring for one another.
You are allowed to be held.
You inherited resilience, not only pain.
Belonging should not cost you yourself.
You will return to the Compass again and again.
The Vortex is not a linear program.
You may begin in Nourish during one season and return to Release years later. Another chapter may ask you to Connect before you are ready to Shine.
There is no wrong place to begin. There is only the direction your life is asking you to notice.
You.
Where are you right now?
You do not need to diagnose yourself or have everything figured out. Begin by noticing what is asking for your attention.
